Bishop Gevorg Saroyan files lawsuit against the Armenian Apostolic Church
One of the clergymen demanding the resignation of Karekin II, Catholicos of All Armenians, Bishop Gevorg Saroyan (Arman Saroyan), Primate of the Diocese of Masyatsotn, has filed a lawsuit against the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church.
According to data from the Datalex judicial information system, Saroyan demands to invalidate the Pontifical Order of Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II, by which he was dismissed from the position of Primate of the Diocese of Masyatsotn, and to be reinstated in that position.
The lawsuit was filed in the Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction of Armavir Province on January 15 and has been assigned to Judge Edgar Hovhannisyan.
Earlier, a number of high-ranking clergymen had demanded the resignation of the Catholicos. On January 4, 2026, RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and 10 bishops presenting that demand announced the launch of a reform process for the Armenian Apostolic Church and published an action plan, which envisages the creation of a coordinating council to manage organizational issues.
