Citizen on the incident in the church: “This is the Overton window phase — they want to normalize the abnormal”
The events that took place in the church have sparked diverse reactions in society. Citizens view them as a dangerous trend aimed against the church and national values.
Commenting on the recent incidents, one citizen said that what is happening can be seen through the framework of the “Overton window.” According to her, this is clearly a negative phenomenon that may threaten national and spiritual values.
“On the 26th anniversary of the enthronement, I stand with the Catholicos — he is a nation-centered man. What is happening in parallel is a political discourse with a strong foreign policy dimension. This is a centuries-long plan — they want to dismantle the church,” the woman said.
According to Ms. Anzhela, the new phenomena observed in the church are not accidental: “They were introduced deliberately to promote anti-state and anti-church activity. This is idolatry, an Overton window — it’s being implemented to make the abnormal appear normal. No reasonable Armenian would baptize their child with a priest who has been excommunicated.”
She added that all of this is a staged performance: “One day they’ll even marry same-sex couples in the church. This is Overton — first, they present it as a topic for discussion, then people get used to it, and finally, it becomes the norm.”
