Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II issues message on Great Lent: what Did he say?

Great Lent begins on February 16, lasting 48 days until the eve of the Feast of the Holy Resurrection. The 40 days of Lent symbolize Christ’s forty-day period of prayer, fasting, and repentance in the desert. This year, Holy Easter will be celebrated on April 5.

His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, urged the faithful to pray and repent on the occasion of Great Lent.

“Beloved ones, in our days, when our souls are troubled by concerns over national and patriotic life issues and various attacks against our Holy Church, let us find peace through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we were reconciled with God,” he stated.

The Catholicos noted that this period of fasting should serve as an occasion for universal remorse and repentance.

“So that by realizing and correcting our mistakes and shortcomings, we may collectively overcome all tribulations and difficulties. May God the Most High establish peace in the world, in our homeland, and in our hearts, and keep and preserve our nation, our state, and our Holy Church in prosperity and edification,” Karekin II concluded.

It should be noted that the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Armenia has initiated criminal prosecution against the Catholicos on charges of obstructing the execution of a judicial act related to the former leader of the Diocese of Masyatsotn, and his exit from Armenia has been prohibited.
