The competition for the construction project of the metro station near Surmalu will be announced by the end of 2024
A competition for the construction project of a metro station in the area adjacent to the Surmalu shopping center will be announced by the end of 2024. This was mentioned during the operational meeting of Yerevan City Hall on December 2.
Aneta Babayan, the director of the “Yerevan Urban Development Investment Program Implementation Office,” announced that the project has been presented to international partners for suggestions and comments, as preparations are underway for an international competition to procure design and feasibility study services. The project is currently being refined.
During the operational meeting in Yerevan on November 11, it was noted that negotiations are underway with international organizations regarding potential financing for the project. In the near future, international organizations are expected to make local visits.
Discussions about the construction of the metro have been ongoing since 2018. The proposed station is planned to be built between the “Sasuntsi Davit” and “Zoravar Andranik” stations. It is expected that traffic flow will ease, the number of cars will decrease, pedestrian flow and transportation issues will be regulated, and the development of the metro will be ensured. The construction of the new metro will also contribute to the economic development of the surrounding areas.
