The amount of dust in the air in Yerevan has increased
According to the “Air Pollution by Dust Particles” indicator platform on the official Yerevan City Hall website, the amount of dust in the air has increased in all administrative districts of the capital. Following the scale, it can be seen that the air is considered unhealthy for both sensitive groups and individuals without health issues. Residents have also responded to this issue on social media. Afterward, the Yerevan City Hall provided clarifications, stating that the burning of various types of fuel during the winter months has also contributed to air pollution.
During this period, the main sources of atmospheric pollution (construction, transportation, and open-pit mining) are further compounded by the burning of various types of fuel for heating purposes, leading to an increase in organic dust and smoke in the air. In neighborhoods dominated by private houses, this significantly raises the level of air pollution, as, in addition to natural gas, firewood, various items, and waste are also burned, – this was mentioned in the statement.
Air pollution negatively affects public health. Particularly vulnerable are individuals with respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. A high level of air pollution is also dangerous for healthy individuals, as prolonged exposure increases the risk of malignant formations.
Among neighboring countries, Azerbaijan has the most polluted air. This is due to the increase in industrial enterprises and oil extraction within the country. Following Azerbaijan are Turkey, Armenia, and Georgia.
