Yerevan to Purchase 45 New Trolleybuses from China

Yerevan City Hall has purchased 45 new 12-meter trolleybuses from China, which are expected to arrive in Armenia in the first half of 2026. The advance payment for the vehicles has been transferred. The cost of each trolleybus is 96 million drams.

The new trolleybuses are designed to carry approximately 85 passengers. They will have 25 seated and 3 additional seats, and will also be equipped with foldable ramps for wheelchair users.

The vehicles will replace 30 “LIAZ” trolleybuses that have been operating in the capital for nearly two decades. Following this purchase, Yerevan’s trolleybus fleet will be completely renewed and will comprise 75 new trolleybuses.

It should be recalled that back in June, former Yerevan City Hall press secretary Hayk Kostanyan announced that the Yerevan authorities would not be able to acquire a part of the previously promised trolleybuses due to under-collection of funds.

Later, in October, Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan reported that after the law penalizing ticketless travel came into force, the revenue of the city transport had increased by about 20 percent, which ensured the possibility of new purchases.

The Mayor also informed that the next step planned is the purchase of 250 new 18-meter buses in a single batch. The issue will be discussed at the investment committee meeting to be held before the end of the year.

It is worth noting that at the government session on September 18, 2 billion 138 million drams were allocated for the advance payment for the acquisition of 45 new trolleybuses and new elevators for high-rise buildings.
