The Catholicos’ New Year Message Will Not Be Broadcast on Public Television
The Mother See has announced that the Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians’ New Year message will not be broadcast on Public Television, as the television network plans to air the Catholicos’ message on December 31 at 9:55 PM.
It is important to note that no discussions have taken place between the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin and Public Television regarding the broadcast of the message. The network continues to bypass the decades-long tradition of broadcasting the New Year message of the Catholicos of All Armenians, disregarding the stance of the Mother See and the expectations of the Armenian Church’s faithful both in Armenia and the diaspora, – the Mother See stated.
The Catholicos’ message will be aired by other television networks on New Year’s Eve.
It should be noted that in 2023, for the same reasons, the Mother See did not allow Public Television to broadcast the Catholicos’ message. The Catholicos’ address was supposed to follow the speech of the President of Armenia, who is considered the head of state under the Constitution. However, since there are no explicit legal regulations, the sequence of broadcasts is determined by the television networks themselves.
