Passengers Without Tickets or Using Someone Else’s Ticket Will Be Fined
Public order maintenance officers will board buses and fine passengers traveling without tickets or using discounted tickets that do not belong to them. This was announced by Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan during his year-end press conference.
Upon entering a bus, inspectors will carry special devices and ask passengers to present their tickets.
Avinyan assured that efforts are being made to ensure that all systems operate as efficiently as possible and that any existing issues within the system are resolved. According to the mayor, once it is confirmed that the systems are fully operational and all eligible groups have access to their benefits, the monitoring mechanism will be implemented.
A new fare system was initially set to take effect on January 1, 2025, but its implementation has been postponed to February 1.
Despite the delay in fare changes, payments with 100-dram coins will no longer be possible. As the transition to a fully electronic payment system is underway.
