Protest action in front of the EU Delegation building
A protest action was held on December 5 in front of the building of the European Union (EU) Delegation to the Republic of Armenia, in support of Narek Samsonyan and Vazgen Saghatelyan, co-authors of the “Imnemnimi” program. The action was organized by their supporters.
Lusine Arakelyan, the wife of Narek Samsonyan, handed a letter to the EU Embassy, noting that a response from their side is unlikely.
“With the silence and patronage of European structures, political persecutions are taking place in Armenia today, and opposition figures are being silenced. The letter is purely for history, to record what happened and with what silence it was tolerated. We say that the EU fights for human rights and freedom of speech; in that case, do they not see what is happening in Armenia?” she said.
It should be noted that Lusine Arakelyan had publicly addressed the EU Ambassador, accusing him of silence and stating that this silence “has become a tool to support the current authorities.”
The letter outlines the actions carried out against Narek Samsonyan and Vazgen Saghatelyan. Recall that on the morning of November 13, masked law enforcement officers broke into their homes and arrested them. Subsequently, searches were carried out in the “Antifake” office, and all equipment was confiscated.
Criminal proceedings were initiated against Narek Samsonyan and Vazgen Saghatelyan for responding to an insult by RA National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan. They are charged under the article “Hooliganism committed with the use of means of communication” and were later arrested.
