
The process of implementing transport cards has begun in Yerevan: Details and new regulations
The Yerevan City Hall, during an operational meeting held today, provided details about the process of obtaining transport cards. Citizens eligible for discounted fares can identify themselves and link their discounted package to their bank cards such as ARCA, VISA, or MASTER with physical, contactless payment capabilities at the administrative buildings (community halls) in Yerevan districts or at Telcell offices. To purchase a discounted ticket, individuals must visit the district administrative building with an identity document and public service number.
This process can also be carried out at Telcell service points and on the website transport.yerevan.am.
For citizens without eligibility for discounts, metro staff will assist in obtaining transport cards.
Once the transport card is topped up, it will become active within 3 hours. This delay is due to software updates, the need to acquire cards from all validators, add the ticket package, and transfer the information.
Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan announced that discussions will take place in the near future regarding additional eligible groups and the amount of discounts.
Our main goal should be the fair distribution of benefits, so that all individuals who truly need discounts can take advantage of this opportunity. The unified ticketing system is indeed a transitional, complex process, and this phase has already seen support from Yerevan residents, despite their frustration, and we have significantly increased our collections and I want to thank the people and also apologize for the technical issues that we are solving on a daily basis, – emphasized the mayor.
