A single emergency call number to be launched in the RA: Which one is it?

Instead of the current 1-02 (Police), 1-01 (Rescue Service), and 9-11 (other emergency response services) phone numbers, a single emergency call number, 1-12, is to be launched in Armenia. This was announced by Armen Mkrtchyan, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs (MIA) of the Republic of Armenia (RA), during a government session.

According to him, the 1-12 number was chosen because a similar format is considered more recognizable for rapid emergency response in EU countries as well.   “The adoption of this phone number was also positively evaluated in the context of the EU-RA visa liberalization process,” Mkrtchyan stated.

The Deputy Minister noted that the currently operating 1-02, 1-01, and 9-11 numbers will continue to function for some time and will be redirected to the new single 1-12 number. The old numbers will be removed from circulation only after a large-scale awareness campaign.

Mkrtchyan also emphasized that in the near future, the servicing of Emergency Medical Assistance calls is also planned to be carried out under the same unified service system.
