The Food Safety Inspection Body Fined Businesses Approximately 182 Million AMD in 2024
Armen Danielyan, head of the Food Safety Inspection Body, discussed the oversight activities carried out in 2024 during a press conference. He noted that inspections were conducted at around 4,000 businesses, of which 1,100 were found to have violations.
Over the course of the year, the inspection body fined businesses a total of 182 million AMD. Approximately 121 million AMD has already been paid. Additionally, the agency decided to suspend the operations of 130 businesses within its jurisdiction. Among these, 64 rectified their violations and were granted permission to resume operations.
Regarding food safety violations, Danielyan highlighted the sale of slaughterhouse-origin meat, emphasizing that this area remains a priority. By the end of 2024, Armenia had 139 slaughterhouses, up from 99 in 2022. This statistical growth indicates a steady increase in the number of slaughterhouses. However, last December, AMNEWS reviewed the distribution of slaughterhouses across regions and cities in Armenia.
In 2025, the Food Safety Inspection Body plans to implement stricter monitoring, particularly at small public food establishments. Special attention will be paid to bread production and sales, as well as food safety in kindergartens, schools, elderly care centers, and similar institutions.
