Why the funds for “Ajapnyak” metro station were not fully utilized
The Yerevan Municipality has clarified reports circulated in the press regarding the financing of the construction of the “Ajapnyak” station of the Yerevan Metro.
From the funds approved by the 2025 state budget, 9 billion 640 million AMD was allocated to the Municipality for the construction of the “Ajapnyak” station. Of this, 765 million 100 thousand AMD was transferred to “Metrogiprotrans” JSC for the development of the package of design and estimate documentation for the 3rd phase of the station’s construction.
The Municipality reports that the expenses planned under the metro construction program were later revised, taking into account the fact that the conclusion of the comprehensive expertise of the project was received only on June 9, 2025.
The full utilization of the planned financial means during 2025 was not realistic; they have been redistributed and directed towards the implementation of other measures.
At the same time, according to the Municipality, the metro construction program has not been terminated. Under the Law on the 2026 State Budget, 2 billion AMD has been earmarked for the construction of the metro, which will be directed toward the start of construction and the implementation of preparatory works.
