The cost of acquiring Armenian citizenship will become 50,000, and renouncing citizenship will cost 150,000 drams

The National Assembly approved the draft law to increase the state duty rates for acquiring and renouncing citizenship, with 65 votes in favor and 33 against.

Since the 1990s, the fee for granting citizenship remained 1,000 drams, and for renouncing citizenship, it was 25,000 drams. According to the new amendment, the fee for acquiring citizenship will be 50,000 drams, and the fee for renouncing citizenship will be 150,000 drams.

The draft law was prepared by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The department deemed the increase in fees necessary to ensure they are in line with the current prices in the country and to maintain respect for the state institution of citizenship. According to the proposed draft, individuals without citizenship and refugees are exempt from paying the fees.

The government made this decision on October 17, 2024.
