Bill Prohibiting the Sale of Energy Drinks to Minors Approved
The National Assembly approved the legislative package amending the “Law on Trade and Services” of the Republic of Armenia, which prohibits the sale of energy drinks to individuals under 18 and imposes restrictions on their advertisement.
The purpose of the law is to protect teenagers’ health, based on data from the Ministry of Health, which indicates that 40% of teenagers consume energy drinks weekly, potentially having a negative impact on them.
The main rapporteur of the law, Alkhas Ghazaryan, stated that the need for the proposal arose due to public concern over the issue. According to the MP, several countries have already implemented similar restrictions. These countries include Latvia, Lithuania, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, Poland, and others.
The bill also introduces administrative liability for those who violate its requirements.
The legislative package was discussed in the session of the Standing Committee on Economic Affairs, revised based on government recommendations, and received a positive conclusion.
