Upper Lars open to all types of vehicles

As of January 20, the Upper Lars checkpoint from Georgia to Russia is open to all types of vehicles.

According to the Roads Department of Georgia, traffic has been restored on the Gudauri-Kobi section of the Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Lars international highway.

Traffic for heavy trucks had been closed since the evening of January 17 due to snow and ice. Following an improvement in weather conditions, the road has also been reopened for trucks.

It should be recalled that “Upper Lars” is the only functioning land border crossing between Armenia and Russia through the territory of Georgia.

The Rescue Service and road authorities advise drivers to travel only with winter tires and to remain vigilant in mountainous areas.

It is noteworthy that in recent days, the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) has increased by approximately 100 AMD. This has been influenced by both the closure of Lars and ongoing events in Iran. The question arises whether the reopening of Upper Lars will impact LPG prices in Armenia.
