How much whitefish can be caught in 2026?
The RA Government has authorized industrial fishing of whitefish (sig) in Lake Sevan with a total quota of up to 550 tons. The decision was adopted during today’s Cabinet meeting.
Fishing is permitted from February 6 to November 20 across the entire area of the lake. A minimum distance of at least 500 meters from the shore has been established.
It should be noted that last year the quota for permissible industrial whitefish fishing in Lake Sevan was 314 tons.
Restrictions on fishing equipment have also been set. It is prohibited to use nets made of synthetic nylon or other polyamide fibers with a thread diameter of less than 0.5 mm and a mesh size of less than 80 mm (structural pitch of less than 40 mm).
The decision also defines the pre-spawning and spawning period for whitefish from November 20, 2026, to February 1, 2027.
