Number of births in Armenia continues to decline: the picture of the past year

The number of births in Yerevan decreased this January; compared to the same period last year, 25 fewer children were born. The data were presented during the working consultation at the Yerevan Municipality.

According to Davit Karapetyan, the Head of the Health Department, 1,632 births were registered in January 2025: 854 of the newborns were boys, and 778 were girls. In Yerevan alone, during the same month, 1,607 children were born: 859 boys and 748 girls.

According to the data of the Statistical Committee of the RA, 33,593 children were born in Armenia in 2024, which is about 10,000 less than the 2014 figure. By regional distribution: 9,581 children were born in Yerevan, 1,788 in Aragatsotn, 3,677 in Ararat, 3,563 in Armavir, 2,678 in Gegharkunik, 2,643 in Lori, 3,606 in Kotayk, 2,569 in Shirak, 1,499 in Syunik, 652 in Vayots Dzor, and 1,337 in Tavush.

 It should be noted that the primary source of information on births is the civil status act registrations, which are obtained from the Civil Status Acts Registration (CSAR) agency of the RA Ministry of Justice.
