The number of unemployed people in Armenia is increasing, the number of job vacancies as well
Since 2018, the number of unemployed individuals had decreased until the beginning of 2024; however, in the first and second quarters of this year, the number of unemployed has increased.
An unemployed person is defined as someone who does not have a job or a productive activity, is actively seeking work using any means, meaning they have applied to public and/or private employment services, searched for work through acquaintances, relatives, advertisements, or any other method.
According to the data from the Statistical Committee, around 190,000 people were considered unemployed in the second quarter of 2024. Compared to the same period last year, the number of unemployed increased by 18.2%.
In recent years, there has been a significant decrease. For example, in 2018, there were 245,000 unemployed people in Armenia, but by the end of 2023, this number had decreased by around 74,000.
Recently, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan mentioned in an interview that there are 749,000 job vacancies in Armenia.
The new number of job vacancies in Armenia has set an absolute record according to October’s data. If I’m not mistaken, there are 749,000 wage-paying jobs available.
