Robert Hovhannisyan ranked 8th in the European Individual Championship

The European Individual Chess Championship concluded in Petrovac, Montenegro, where Armenian chess players did not win any medals.

Robert Hovhannisyan achieved the highest ranking among the Armenian participants. The grandmaster scored 8 points out of a possible 11, securing 8th place. Positions 3 to 13 had the same score of 8 points, but Serbian player Velimir Ivić claimed the bronze medal due to better tiebreak points.

Among the other Armenian participants, Aram Hakobyan scored 7.5 points and ranked 24th, while Manuel Petrosyan, Erik Gasparyan, and Shant Sargsyan each scored 7 points, sharing 34th-66th places with other players.

The title of European Individual Champion was claimed by Serbian Aleksandar Inđić, who scored 9 points out of 11. The tournament’s prize fund was $100,000. $20,000 awarded to the first place, $15,000 to the second, and $10,000 to the third. Robert Hovhannisyan earned $3,000 for his performance.
