New Fraud Scenario: Perpetrators Posing as State or Bank Employees

A new format of calls has spread in Armenia, where criminals introduce themselves as employees of the NSS (National Security Service), the Central Bank, or other state and banking systems, demanding money transfers or the sending of QR codes under various pretexts. This is reported by the Cyber Police, which is presenting new developments and preventative measures.

The criminals may also demand QR codes from ATMs that work with crypto assets, which allows them to steal money. In such cases, citizens must heed one directive: never comply with such instructions.

The Cyber Police of the MIA (Ministry of Internal Affairs) note that such cases have increased recently, and the fraudsters have become more cunning. The Police are cooperating with the SkyLabs company, whose terminals are most frequently used for such operations. By agreement between the parties, the system is being modernized to prevent illegal transfers and ensure that criminals cannot dispose of stolen funds.

According to expert assessments, the increase in cyber fraud is due both to the public’s lack of awareness and the spread of transactions involving cryptocurrencies.
