Individuals Trading with Counterfeit Currency Apprehended in Vayots Dzor and Ararat Provinces
On November 12, police and investigative bodies identified and apprehended individuals engaged in trading with counterfeit currency in Vayots Dzor and Ararat Provinces. A 43-year-old woman from Gyumri and a 28-year-old young man from Nor Kharberd were arrested. They visited trade outlets in Areni and Surenavan in a “Ford” vehicle and attempted to circulate the counterfeit money.
Counterfeit banknotes of various denominations—2, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 thousand drams—were discovered on the man, and counterfeit currency was also found on the woman. The man stated that he had acquired them from an online store and attempted to exchange them for real money.
Thanks to swift action, all confiscated counterfeit banknotes and documents have been transferred to the Vayots Dzor Regional Investigative Department. The investigation is ongoing.
