Bishop Gevorg Saroyan, primate of the diocese of Masyatsotn, dismissed from office
The decision was made by the decree of Catholicos Garegin II, based on the abuse of official powers, failure to perform duties, as well as documented circumstances regarding the use of coercion and pressure against the clergy of the diocese.
Very Reverend Father Ruben Zargaryan has been appointed as the Locum Tenens of the Diocese of Masyatsotn.
It should be recalled that earlier, by the decision of the Catholicos of All Armenians, Bishop Gevorg Saroyan, Primate of the Diocese of Masyatsotn, Bishop Vrtanes Abrahamyan, Primate of the Diocese of Artsakh, and Archbishop Vazgen Mirzakhanian, Primate of the Diocese of the Baltic States, were removed from the Supreme Spiritual Council.
It should also be noted that on January 5, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and 10 bishops demanding the resignation of the Catholicos issued a joint statement, of which Bishop Gevorg Saroyan was one of the signatories.
The Prime Minister responded, stating that the decisions made by Garegin II “have no value and are null and void.”
