EUR 29 million in support, continuation of military cooperation. The joint press conference of the foreign ministers
French Foreign Minister Stephane Sejourne is on a working visit to Armenia. The joint press conference with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia is currently underway.
The French Foreign Minister expressed that they will continue cooperation with Armenia in the field of defense, adding that Armenia should be able to protect its territory, integrity, and population.
In his speech, Sejourne mentioned that the support aimed at the strengthening of strategic infrastructures, particularly the energy transition and water management, will continue.
Speaking also from the humanitarian sphere, the Foreign Minister said that France will provide 29 million euros for the support of refugees.
It is noteworthy that before the visit of the Foreign Minister, the Armenian-French cooperation in the military field has already developed. For example, Armenia will receive 36 “Sesar” artillery systems in the next 15 months. According to the contract signed on October 23, 2023, Paris undertook to supply Yerevan with three Mistral missiles and GM200 radars. France also transferred “Bastion” armored vehicles to Yerevan, five of them were shown during the exercise.
On September 9-13, the delegation of the Military Academy named after Vazgen Sargsyan of the RA Ministry of Defense visited the Ministry of the Armed Forces and the Military Academy of the French Republic.
Agreements were reached on further expansion of cooperation, exchange of cadets and modernization of training programs.
“I want to reaffirm RA’s strong commitment to the peace agenda,” he said, reminding that the next editorial proposals were forwarded to Azerbaijan. He singled out France’s support for the vision of establishing peace.
At the joint press conference, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan emphasized that Armenia is ready to sign the peace agreement, the text that has already been agreed between Azerbaijan and Armenia, a day ago.
“With this agreement, mutual borders will be recognized on the basis of Alma Ata’s declaration,” added Mirzoyan.
