Armenian figure skaters to miss European Championships due to visa denial

Armenian national team figure skaters Semen Danilyants and the pair Karina Akopova and Nikita Rakhmanin will not participate in the European Figure Skating Championships. The Figure Skating Federation of Armenia issued an official statement regarding this on its Facebook page.

According to the statement, despite all necessary documents being submitted within the established deadlines, the Embassy of the United Kingdom did not provide the athletes with entry visas in the required timeframe. As a result, the Armenian team has been deprived of the opportunity to participate in the tournament.

The Federation noted that the European Figure Skating Championships is one of the most important tournaments of the 2025-2026 season.

“This is a serious blow to our athletes’ entire seasonal preparation, competitive development, and international ranking positions. Years of hard work, preparation, and dedication should not depend on administrative delays. The Figure Skating Federation of Armenia is doing everything possible to prevent the recurrence of such situations and to protect the rights of our athletes,” the message states.

It should be noted that the European Figure Skating Championships will take place from January 13 to 18 in Sheffield, United Kingdom.
