Armenia-Venice commission cooperation

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on January 28 in Strasbourg, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, held a meeting with the President of the Venice Commission, Marta Cartabia.

Mirzoyan congratulated Cartabia on her election as the President of the Venice Commission.

During the meeting, the parties discussed ensuring the rule of law, democratic reforms, and priorities for the protection of human rights.

The Minister emphasized that the Commission’s contribution regarding various legal initiatives is important for Armenia.

Reference was also made to the challenges of protecting human rights on digital platforms and the development of effective mechanisms to address them.

The Venice Commission, an advisory body of the Council of Europe, originally had 18 member states. Soon, all countries of the Council of Europe joined the Venice Commission, and since 2002, non-European countries can also become members of the Commission.
