Lawyer arrested for transporting drugs into a correctional facility
A lawyer has been arrested at the Nubarashen Correctional Facility. A substance resembling a narcotic drug was found in their possession.
According to the Penitentiary Service, on February 21, 2026, a lawyer who had come for a meeting with detainees was subjected to a search. Inside the lawyer’s bag, beneath some documents, a 10 ml white transparent syringe was discovered, lacking its plunger and sealed at both ends by melting.
The syringe contained a dark brown powder-like substance resembling a narcotic drug, weighing 8.44 grams.
The lawyer was arrested by officers of the Operational Department of the Penitentiary Service and presented, along with the discovered substance, to the Investigative Division of the Erebuni and Nubarashen Administrative Districts of the RA Investigative Committee.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated regarding the incident.
