9 historical and cultural structures granted monument status
The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport reports that the first session of the expert commission this year discussed projects for granting the status of immovable monuments of history and culture to newly discovered historical-cultural objects, as well as the preservation zone projects for several monuments.
Based on the positive conclusions of the commission and in accordance with the criteria for inclusion in the state list of immovable monuments of history and culture, the status of a newly discovered monument was granted to 9 historical and cultural structures.
Specifically, the status of a monument of local significance was granted to the residential building located at 10 M. Mashtots Avenue in the Kentron administrative district of Yerevan (1956), the bas-relief at 3 Aratyan Street in the city of Masis, Ararat Province (20th century), the memorial dedicated to the victims of World War II (20th century), two bridges in the village of Lichk, Syunik Province (17th century), and the “Hayrenik” (Motherland) memorial in the village of Itsakar, Tavush Province (1984).
Simultaneously, the status of a monument of republican significance was granted to the petroglyph complex and the burial field in the village of Ishkhanasar, Syunik Province (2nd-1st millennia BC), as well as the “Yenokavan-1” and “Yenokavan-2” cave-dwellings in the village of Yenokavan, Tavush Province, which encompass various periods from the Mesolithic and Neolithic to the Middle Ages.
During the session, projects for the preservation zones of several monuments were also discussed, including the cemetery of the city of Ashtarak, Aragatsotn Province (13th-20th centuries), the Surb Astvatsatsin (Karmravor) Church (7th century), the building of the Perch Proshyan House-Museum (1948), the “Dzor” (“Manushakadzor”) settlement site in the village of Vaghashen, Gegharkunik Province, the memorial fountain and monument to the victims of World War II in the village of Atan, Lori Province, the Surb Astvatsatsin (Mashtots Hayrapet) Church in the village of Garni, Kotayk Province, as well as the preservation zone projects for the Aghavnadzor settlement site in the village of Alvank, Syunik Province.
The projects recognized as acceptable will be sent for coordination with the heads of communities and state bodies of territorial administration in the established order, after which they will be approved by the Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport of the Republic of Armenia.
