Why has Armenia not exported any goods to Azerbaijan so far? The Minister of Economy on the reasons
The Minister of Economy of the Republic of Armenia, Gevorg Papoyan, has stated that two types of Azerbaijani products have been imported from Azerbaijan to Armenia: gasoline and diesel fuel. So far, no goods have been exported from Armenia to Azerbaijan.
According to the Minister, one of the reasons for this is that the markets of the two countries do not yet know each other well, and time is needed for the formation of business ties. He emphasized that the trade process is primarily in the domain of the private sector, while the state creates the necessary conditions and agreements.
Papoyan noted that a significant part of those conditions has already been provided. There is no direct railway connection yet, but work in that direction is underway.
According to him, within a few years, it is planned to launch the “Trump Route,” which could activate trade between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The Minister added that the process is complex and time-consuming but feasible.
Babken Tunyan had also addressed the topic earlier. He stated that in 1-2 months, Armenia will be able to export goods to Azerbaijan. According to him, Armenian metal and foil products, as well as certain food products, are within the scope of Azerbaijan’s interest.
At the same time, Azerbaijani media reports that in 2025, Azerbaijan exported $788,800 worth of products to Armenia.
