Ministry to Introduce a New Bill for Teachers
On November 12, Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan announced in the National Assembly that the Government of the Republic of Armenia intends to draft a bill “On the Status of the Teacher,” which will outline the main benefits and guarantees available to teachers. The Minister informed that during the drafting of the bill, they are ready to listen to proposals for additional social programs and support measures.
The goal of the bill is to enshrine the fundamental labor, social, and financial guarantees for teachers, as well as to support them by creating favorable conditions for working in the educational sector.
Andreasyan also noted that the Ministry has temporarily suspended travel expense subsidies for teachers who live in one location and teach in another. This suspension is due to reports from law enforcement agencies that, in some cases, teachers were receiving benefits based on false residency certificates. The program will be restarted after investigations are carried out and similar cases are eliminated.
It should be noted that a few days ago, a number of teachers protested the temporary suspension of travel expense payments. They demanded that the Ministry ensure the full and uninterrupted implementation of payments, without delay or reduction. As became clear from the Minister’s speech today, the issue has not yet been resolved.
