Former Soldiers Receiving Military Pensions Can Join Contract Military Service
Changes are expected in the package of draft amendments to the laws on “Military Service and the Status of Military Personnel” and “State Pensions.” This was announced by Armen Khachatryan, Deputy Chairman of the Permanent Committee on Defense and Security, during an extraordinary session of the National Assembly.
The amendments aim to provide former servicemen who receive military pensions with the opportunity to serve in contract military service in certain military units. Those who choose to join will not lose their right to receive a military pension. The list of units where this privilege applies will be approved by the Ministry of Defense.
There are significant issues in the process of replenishing personnel resources in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia. The law concerns military units that have urgent personnel needs. Additionally, this is an incentive for officers and enlisted personnel in the reserve who have not yet reached a certain age limit, are fit for service, and have been on long-term pension. They will be able to return to service in the designated military units while receiving both a pension and a salary, – Khachatryan stated.
It was also noted that military personnel will have the opportunity to benefit from the certification process and receive a higher salary.
