Ukraine is withdrawing its troops from Vuhledar
Ukraine is withdrawing its troops from Vuhledar due to the threat of the city’s encirclement. This information was initially shared by the Khortytsia operational-military group and later confirmed by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Following prolonged battles with numerous losses, the enemy persisted in attempts to capture Vuhledar. Border attacks aimed at controlling the city exhausted the defenses of Ukrainian units. As a result of the enemy’s actions, the risk of the city being surrounded emerged. The high command authorized the withdrawal of troops from Vuhledar to preserve personnel and military equipment and to reposition for future operations, – according to the statement.
The city holds strategic significance for Donetsk as it is located on higher ground. By capturing the city, Russian forces could gain control over the Donetsk-Mariupol railway. Fighting for Vuhledar has been ongoing since November 2022.
