Ambakum Grigoryan has been dismissed from the position of Head of the Penitentiary Service
By the decision of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Ambakum Grigoryan, the acting head of the Penitentiary Service, has been dismissed from his position on December 5.
The decision cites Articles 6(3.1) and 9(7) of the Law on Public Service as the basis for his dismissal.
Earlier this year, in October, there were rumors that Grigoryan had submitted his resignation. His appointment was initially opposed by MP Andranik Kocharyan from the ruling party, who openly expressed his dissatisfaction with the decision to appoint Grigoryan to the position. Kocharyan had voiced his opposition during a meeting of the Parliamentary Legal and Judicial Affairs Committee.
Grigoryan graduated from Yerevan State University’s Faculty of Law in 1999. He joined the Penitentiary Service in 2021, holding the position of Deputy Head of the Service. He was appointed to the head position in 2023 by the Prime Minister’s decision.
