Relatives of Missing Soldiers and Officials Meet in Parliament
On January 30, a closed meeting was held in the National Assembly between the relatives of soldiers missing from the 44-day war in 2020 and the heads of various state agencies. Around 16 parents participated in the discussion, while approximately 70 relatives were able to observe the meeting from the balconies. Among the officials present were National Security Service (NSS) Director Armen Abazyan, Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan, Military Prosecutor Grigor Elizbaryan, Investigative Committee Chairman Artur Poghosyan, Deputy Minister of Defense Arman Sargsyan, and others. The details of the meeting remain undisclosed.
I believe we have work to do. If it is possible to save even one fate, then everything must be done to save it. During these five hours, questions have been raised, and those who could provide answers have been present. Whether the answers were sufficient or not will be revealed by our planned future work, – stated Andranik Kocharyan.
The parents of missing soldiers had previously blocked Baghramyan Avenue on December 27, demanding a meeting with Andranik Kocharyan, head of the parliamentary investigative committee studying the circumstances of the 44-day war. That meeting took place with the participation of Speaker of Parliament Alen Simonyan, who assured them that the issue of missing soldiers would be discussed in the National Assembly. The relatives were primarily interested in the efforts made over the past four years to locate missing soldiers. However, some parents expressed distrust in the DNA test results provided to them and demanded additional examinations.
