Baku expresses dissatisfaction with Zatulin’s comments
The Russian Ambassador Mikhail Evdokimov has been summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan.
A note of protest was handed to him regarding the statement made by Konstantin Zatulin, a member of the State Duma of Russia and the “United Russia” party.
The note of protest states that Zatulin has long opposed Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, showing open support for separatism, and has also attempted to misrepresent the verdicts against Armenian prisoners in Baku.
As a reminder, according to Zatulin, “The right of self-determination of the Armenian population of Artsakh was condemned in Baku.” He also emphasized that “this verdict was not actually a trial, but a lethal sanction,” and that this clearly shows why the Armenians were forced to leave their lands and homes.
Zatulin also addressed the fact that the verdict was published the day after Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev jointly received the brotherhood award.
The Azerbaijani authorities have urged Russia to monitor the statements of its officials and to observe diplomatic norms.
