U.S. Vice President JD Vance confirmed prior to departure for Baku: the issue of armenian prisoners to be discussed

U.S. Vice President JD Vance announced that during his meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, the issue of Armenian prisoners held in Baku will be discussed. He made this statement at “Zvartnots” Airport before his departure.

He added that the United States maintains good relations with the leadership of both Armenia and Azerbaijan. Vance also recalled that during their recent meeting, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan expressed optimism regarding a peace agreement, referring to the improvement of the situation over recent months.

According to official data, 19 Armenian prisoners are held in Azerbaijan, including former presidents of Artsakh and former commanders of the Defense Army. An additional 4 prisoners had returned to Armenia in January 2026.

The U.S. Vice President also addressed investment programs in Armenia; according to him, thanks to certain agreements signed between Trump and Pashinyan, investments of up to $4 billion are planned, including the establishment of a data center, which will lead to the creation of new jobs.

U.S. Vice President JD Vance arrived in Armenia on an official visit on February 9. During the visit, he met with RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and President Vahagn Khachaturyan, and also visited Tsitsernakaberd. Today, Vance is departing Armenia for Azerbaijan.
