Baku denies statement on $7 billion investment in Gaza program
U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that a group of countries has jointly invested over $7 billion in a Gaza aid program within the framework of the “Peace Council.” According to him, investments were made by Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, the UAE, Morocco, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, and Kuwait. The announcement was made during the inaugural session of the Council.
However, shortly thereafter, Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, denied this information. He wrote on the X social network that Azerbaijan is not participating in the $7 billion project.
“I would like to clarify one point. Azerbaijan does not plan to participate in the $7 billion financial initiative related to Gaza, which was announced at today’s meeting of the Peace Council,” Hajiyev wrote.
At the same time, he noted that in the future, Baku might consider the possibility of participating in investment initiatives for Gaza.
Trump also stated that Washington would provide $10 billion for programs implemented within the “Peace Council,” the United Nations (UN) would provide $2 billion, and FIFA would provide $75 million for football projects in the region.
At Trump’s invitation, the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan have become members of the “Peace Council” initiated by the U.S. administration.
It should also be noted that Armenia signed the Charter of the Peace Council without financial obligations, on the basis of membership fee participation.
