UN Security Council to convene a meeting

At the initiative of France and Bahrain, the UN Security Council will convene an emergency session today at 21:00 to discuss the tense situation in Iran and the Middle East. The meeting will be presided over by the United Kingdom, as it holds the Council presidency this month.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres condemned the use of force in the region and called for an immediate end to the conflict. All 15 member states, including Russia and China, will participate in the session. The latter have also demanded an emergency meeting due to the war launched by the USA and Israel against Iran.

According to Russia’s statement, during the Security Council meeting, the USA and Israel will be required to immediately cease “actions that violate rules and create tension” and move toward a political and diplomatic settlement.

Secretary-General António Guterres will also attend the meeting. Earlier, he condemned the military escalation in the Middle East and emphasized the necessity of protecting international peace and security.
