The protest in Georgia continues; a yellow security level has been declared

On November 25, at 12:00, the first session of the 11th convocation of the Parliament of Georgia will take place.

According to the country’s legislation, the session is supposed to be opened by the president. This is the first time in the country’s history that the session will be opened by the oldest member of Parliament instead of the president. The reason is that Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili considers the elections unconstitutional and is leading a march against the current government in Georgia.

Protesters have spent the night near the Parliament. They are preparing to prevent the first session of Parliament. Local media report that security around Parliament has been heightened. A yellow security level has been declared, meaning that access to Parliament will be restricted in order to ensure the safety of MPs and staff.

At the same time, two protests are taking place in the capital. On Rustaveli Avenue, cultural figures and students are holding a “Give Back the Vote” action. The students believe that the parliamentary elections were fraudulent.

As a result of the October 26 elections, the “Georgian Dream” party won for the fourth consecutive time.

“Georgian Dream” – 53.93% (89 mandates)

“Coalition for Change” – 11.03% (19 mandates)

“Unity-National Movement” – 10.17% (16 mandates)

“Strong Georgia” coalition – 8.81% (14 mandates)

“Gakharia for Georgia” – 7.78% (12 mandates)
