The international conference “Armenians in Southern Russia: History, Culture, Shared Future” has begun
On November 12, the 5th international conference, “Armenians in Southern Russia: History, Culture, Shared Future,” began in Rostov-on-Don. The conference will continue its sessions on November 13 as well.
The conference will address a range of topics, from Armenian-Russian relations to the impact Armenians have made on Russian culture. Special focus will be given to the lives of Armenians in southern Russia, their history, language, national culture, economic activities, and other related issues.
Separate presentations will also address the role and importance of the Armenian Apostolic Church within Armenian communities. The program has been organized by the Southern Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Southern Federal University. The National Academy of Sciences of Armenia will also participate. The Armenian community of Nakhichevan-on-Don remains a consistent co-organizer of the event.
It should be noted that during the opening ceremony, the president of the community, Harutyun Surmalyan, addressed the conference participants with a welcome speech.
Unfortunately, despite numerous plans and promises from various partners, Armenology conferences have become rare in our country. Therefore, we can proudly state that Rostov-on-Don has become a true center for Armenology, where such conferences are held regularly every three years. This tradition has been maintained since 2012.
