Taxi drivers have organized a protest
Online taxi drivers have organized a protest, demanding the creation of a commission to address drivers’ issues. According to the participants, these issues are mainly related to tariff. They are demanding either the complete abolition of the tariff concept or the implementation of a system that would regulate tariff changes. They also mentioned their desire to revert to the forms of the 1990s, when the minimum taxi fare was 600 AMD, instead of the current 300.
The Central Bank tolerates the false component-the tariff-that is not subject to any control. Operators justify it by claiming that demand exists, and therefore the tariff increases. But who monitors whether this demand truly exists, to what extent it exists, and whether it aligns with the algorithm it is based on? In other words, if there is no control over any component, it cannot legitimately exist.
In addition, the drivers were showing on their phones that the price for the order was different in the driver’s app compared to the passenger’s app. For a passenger located 10 km away, Yandex paid the drivers only 200 AMD for picking them up and taking them to their destination. The drivers stated that due to the increasing fees, commissions, and continuous rises in gas prices, they are unable to make a profit.
However, they announced that they also plan to hold more gatherings in the future.
