In Armenia, Women Earn Less than Men for the Same Work
The World Bank has released a report on Armenia, highlighting that less than half of working-age women in the country are employed. Women who perform the same work as men earn 25-30% less.
Despite these figures, around 68% of women in Armenia have higher education, compared to only 52% of men.
Carolin Geginat, the head of the World Bank’s Armenia office, believes that achieving gender equality in the labor market could lead to a 4-6% increase in GDP.
The report also emphasizes that gender-based violence remains a serious yet underrepresented issue in Armenia. For example, 18% of women aged 15-59 who have ever had a partner have experienced domestic violence during their lifetime.
