Requirements for vehicle gas cylinder inspection to be tightened in Armenia

The requirements for the technical inspection of vehicle gas cylinders will be tightened in Armenia. The Government adopted the decision today. From now on, gas cylinders will undergo mandatory inspection and certification in specialized laboratories. The inspection process will be recorded. Laboratories are obligated to maintain these recordings for at least six months for review by law enforcement authorities.

According to the justification of the draft, five explosions of vehicles equipped with gas cylinders were recorded in Armenia in 2025, which led to the necessity of tightening safety regulations. Under the current law, owners of gas-powered vehicles must undergo laboratory inspection of their cylinders every two years. Gas stations are prohibited from servicing vehicles that have not passed the inspection.

Although the supervision of inspections and certification is theoretically subject to the Urban Development, Technical, and Fire Safety Inspectorate, in practice, this process has not been implemented until now.
