Aliyev calls the launch of UAVs at Nakhchivan a “terrorist act”
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has stated that the strike of unmanned aerial vehicles launched from the territory of Iran towards the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic is a “terrorist act” against Azerbaijan. He made this statement during a meeting of the Security Council.
Aliyev noted that civilian objects became the targets of the strikes. According to him, Azerbaijan categorically condemns the incident and demands that those responsible for the action be held accountable.
He also mentioned that relevant instructions have already been issued in Azerbaijan: the Iranian Ambassador was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, where a note of protest will be presented to him, and other diplomatic steps will be taken.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, on Thursday, drones launched from Iranian territory hit the city of Nakhchivan. One of them damaged the building of the Nakhchivan International Airport, while the other fell in the village of Shekerabad, adjacent to a school building.
Both domestic and international flights have been temporarily suspended at the Nakhchivan International Airport.
