
Tigran Simonyan Appointed Rector of the Armenian State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports
During the government session on January 16, Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan presented the results of the election for the position of rector of the Armenian State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports.
The competition, held on December 10, 2024, had only one candidate—Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences and Associate Professor Tigran Simonyan. Out of 18 members of the board of trustees present at the session, 17 voted in favor, and 1 voted against Simonyan’s candidacy. Based on the results, Tigran Simonyan was confirmed as rector for a 5 year term.
Simonyan had previously served as the acting rector for about a year. He emphasized that he understands the responsibility he is taking on during this period of change.
As an institution responsible for the field, the university also feels accountable for contributing to the programs approved by the government last year, particularly the work related to the development of physical culture and sports. Rest assured, the university approaches these matters with utmost responsibility, – Simonyan stated.
