Ilham Aliyev is convinced that Armenia does not want to sign a peace treaty
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, speaking about certain challenges faced by Azerbaijan, noted that Armenia is forced to keep itself in the center of attention in this military field.
The issue of increasing our military power is the number one priority. Although the second Karabakh war and the anti-terrorist operation have been left behind, the latest global developments, the new conflict, the emergence of war zones and the increase in tension around us, at the same time, the revanchist tendencies in Armenia force us to be in the center of constant attention in this area.
Aliyev also noted that the restoration of Artsakh and Zangezur is one of the challenges facing the country.
After the war of 2020 and, especially, the depopulation of Artsakh in 2023, the issue of the peace treaty is being discussed a lot. The parties have agreed on 13 of the 16 points, and the text of the agreement has been almost completely agreed, but it cannot be signed, as both the official Baku and Yerevan insist that there are distributive requirements in their countries’ constitutions.
Aliyev also stated that Armenia is artificially delaying the issue. “To date, there have been 10 exchanges of comments since our first draft was sent to Armenia… we have actually been waiting for months. After waiting so long, all the non-agreed clauses were removed from the contract. Such a primitive and inadequate step was unexpected.
President Aliyev said that Armenia does not want to sign an agreement, but is simply delaying time.
