
COP29 climate conference has started in Azerbaijan
From November 11-29, the COP29 conference (29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) will take place in Baku. According to the United Nations, more than 100 heads of state and government have confirmed their participation in the conference. Armenia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan stated that no decision has been made yet regarding Armenia’s participation.
During the conference, discussions are expected to focus on the impact of climate change, the development of renewable energy sources, and strengthening international cooperation in addressing climate issues.
Several world leaders and officials have already announced that they will not be attending to Baku. The President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, King Charles III of the United Kingdom, the Presidents of France, the United States, Brazil, Russia, and China, as well as the Prime Ministers of Canada, Australia, the Netherlands, India, and South Africa will not participate.
