An attempt was made to import 68,500 packs of cigarettes without excise stamps into Armenia.

In a truck arriving from Iran, belonging to an Armenian citizen, 68,500 packs of cigarettes without excise stamps were discovered. The cigarettes were hidden under bags of cement, according to the State Revenue Committee (SRC).

Excise tax is an indirect tax paid to the state budget for importing goods specified by law—in this case, cigarettes. Importers are required to mark the bottle or other container of the product with the aging degree by years.

By attempting to smuggle the cigarettes into Armenian territory, approximately 22.5 million AMD in excise tax was not calculated and not paid to the state budget.

The citizen has been detained.
