The number of museum visitors increased in 2023
The number of visitors to museums in Armenia saw a record increase in 2023. According to data presented by the Statistical Committee of Armenia, this trend is clearly visible. The 100 registered museums in Armenia welcomed around 3.4 million visitors last year.
In August, the Prime Minister made a statement about the state of museums, noting that the museum sector was a “dark forest” for the government. He pointed out that museums have few visitors, generate little revenue, and that the government must take steps to address this issue. However, the numbers prove quite the opposite.
The museums in Yerevan have the most visitors, with an annual average of over 2 million. This could also be due to the fact that the majority of Armenia’s museums (63 out of 100) are located in the capital. Following Yerevan are the other regions of Armenia.
