Ukraine to receive 160 million euros of frozen Russian assets
160 million euros from frozen Russian assets will be allocated this winter to cover Ukraine’s urgent humanitarian needs, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has said. This was announced by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
Russia has damaged Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. According to approximate data, 80 percent of thermal power plants and a third of hydroelectric power plants in the country have been destroyed. That is why there is a problem of electricity shortage in the country.
In Lithuania, thermal power plants are being dismantled for reconstruction in Ukraine.
We aim to restore 2.5 GW of capacity, which is 15% of Ukraine’s needs, – Von der Leyen said, referring to the renovation.
In addition, the EU will increase electricity exports to Ukraine by 2 GW.
Ursula von der Leyen also said that the EU would provide Ukraine with a loan of 35 billion euros.
